Introduction
Recently, many digital collage apps have become very popular, namely Landing and Shuffles. Both are similar, though each has its own unique perks.
History
Shuffles
Pinterest owns Shuffles. It was launched in 2022 and soon received attention on TikTok. Currently, it is available on iOS devices and on Android devices. It has been awarded the "Editor's Choice" award from the App Store.
Landing
Landing was launched in 2019 by a small team in San Francisco. It is available for iOS devices, computers, and Android devices.
Pros and Cons
Shuffles
Pros
Shuffles has an enormous library of photos
Any image on Pinterest can be found on Shuffles because it is owned by Pinterest
Animation of pictures
With any cutout/image, you can add an animation
Editing image features
You can erase certain parts or add others
Cons
Only supports iPhones
Though they have the app available to iPad users, the platform has not been modified to fit the iPad's dimensions
Shuffles only have one size, which is landscape
Only being able to fully use shuffles on one device, your phone
No ability to select multiple items at once
Landing
Pros
Availability of sizes
Unlike Shuffles, you can choose between three different sizes for your collage, landscape, portrait, and square.
Availability for templates
There are a plethora of templates that users can choose from to remix and create their own versions of
My personal favorite is the CD cover
Remove background feature
Landing has outdone Shuffles on their automatic image background remover
Shuffles accurately remove the background while keeping the image unblemished
Spaces/Communities
Inside Landing there is a feature where you can join a space and participate in their regular challenges and prompts
Their non-toxic social media approach
Instead of using likes, they use sparkles. On top of that, they do not have a like/sparkle counter, it only shows the people who have liked it, not a number
Unless of course, you want to individually count everyone who liked your board
Cons
Limited image library
Harder than Shuffles to reorder the positions of items
Inability to edit what exactly is removed with the "remove background feature"
With the "remove background" feature you can't choose what stays in the photo. So you just have to hope it got or didn't get what you wanted
No undo and redo features
No ability to select multiple items at once
Personal conclusion
I think that Landing is a better option. It grants more options and has an overall more suitable user interference. Even though there is a limited amount of images for you to choose from the community library, you can always add your own images (from Pinterest, for example). Also, I believe the challenges are very enjoyable to participate in.
