August Zine monthly: The best zines I read in August

Introduction

This month, I introduce to you the second edition of Zine Monthly. This month, I decided to take a more educational and scientific exploration into zines. If you want to see a complete list of all the Posts in this series, go to our Series and Projects page.

Free Water vs. Bottled Water by Michelle Doh

zine examples

This zine explores the irony of bottled water. This Zine talks about how ridiculous it is that it takes three times more water to make a water bottle than to actually fill it. It additionally talks about the chemicals in bottled water and how they can contaminate you and the environment. I advise everyone to read this zine because it is very educational and makes you consider how companies can make money off of something as essential as water and pollute us and the earth at the same time.

A Gut Feeling by Andrew Yang

zine examples

This zine explains bacteria in our guts in a simple and easy-to-read way. It had many interesting facts, and it explained the subject very well. What I love about this zine is how short and concise it is. It neither over-explains nor under-explains the subject. It gives a quick review of some of the things I learned in biology!

Fire Down Below By Erin Tobey

zine examples

This zine talks about how many harmful chemicals major tampon companies use and expel into the environment. It lays out the information on three well-written pages. Making the information accessible to anyone. This zine is so small that you can even read it on the bus or on your coffee break. However, don't let its size diminish its importance. One thing I liked was how this author included an alternative to this problem. Most people just critique the companies and products but never provide a solution to the problem.
