Introduction
Trends come and go. In the summer of 2019, “hot girl summer” was the hottest new trend. However, recently, there has been a rise of the anti-smartphone movement. This has led to a new summer trend, "literature girl summer." Aemilia Madden from Elle magazine describes lit girl summer: "Lit girl summer offers a bucolic offline interlude, even if it’s just via the imagination." This trend encourages people to disconnect from their phones and instead spend time on books, nature, and creativity. This trend has a more mindful and present way of living during the summer months.

The Lit Girl Summer Aesthetic
Picture this: tote bags with paperbacks peeking out, sun-warmed shoulders, long walks with an audiobook, reading under a tree with an iced matcha. Slow mornings, handwritten journal entries, annotated pages, and vintage bookmarks. There’s no rush, just you and your book.
The best way to find the aesthetic is to go through Pinterest and save all the summery photos. I did this myself and made a lit girl summer-inspired collage.

This summer, I’m choosing to slow down and read stories instead of scrolling. Whether it's falling in love with a good plot or journaling next to an open window, literature girl summer is about being present and finding the pretty in the mundane. Let your mind wander, your heart soften, and your screen time go down.
